Do you want to work in or re-enter the health and well-being industry as a healthcare assistant? If so then this course is for you. You gain the skills and knowledge required to provide person-centred health care under the direction of a health professional. You explore the way different health issues and practices impact the well-being of individuals, families and communities and learn how to care for people with multiple conditions or disabilities. You also learn how to safely move patients and how to respond to vulnerability and abuse. New Zealand鈥檚 ageing population means there is increasing demand for people with your skills. With this qualification you will be able to access a higher level of remuneration based on the funding changes applicable to trained health assistant workers. You could also use this course as a stepping stone towards applying for higher level nursing courses or other degrees. This course is taught with a 'blended' delivery style, with one day per week in class (Monday) and the rest of the learning completed online. This allows flexibility for students who may be working part-time or have other commitments. This course also requires a minimum of 100 hours of practical work experience as a Healthcare assistant. If you are currently working as a Healthcare assistant, your work hours will meet this requirement. If you are not currently working as a Health care assistant, Toi Ohomai will work with you to find a placement at a Healthcare organisation.聽 You will be required to be on placement for one day a week (8 hours) for the duration of the semester. Your placement day can be on Tuesday or Thursday - whichever suits both you and your placement organisation.
