The New Zealand Diploma in Sport, Recreation, and Exercise is a contemporary and career-focused programme that provides a mix of practical sessions, classroom-based activities, and in-industry learning.聽聽You鈥檒l enjoy interactions with a variety of organisations within the sector who have been key employers of our graduates for over twenty years. You may even work with some of them through organised work placements. You can choose to focus on Exercise, Coaching, or Community Sport and Recreation, and there鈥檚 plenty of flexibility to fit your study around your work and wh膩nau commitments. Exercise: Design great personalised exercise programmes to improve lives You鈥檒l learn how to create personalised exercise programmes, tailored to suit individual needs, then deliver them to clients to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. You'll gain an understanding of how to design and deliver small group programmes, and you'll also be able to turn your passion into a business by utilizing key marketing and business skills. By completing this stream, be eligible to apply for a listing on to the鈥 . Coaching: Learn to get the best out of an athlete or sports team You鈥檒l learn about best practice coaching techniques and strategies. From here, you鈥檒l put them into practice by coaching individuals and teams, and use this experience to reflect and improve upon your own coaching style within your chosen sports code. Community Sport and Recreation: Implement strategies to improve the health and wellness of your community You鈥檒l learn about how community sport and recreation currently operates in New Zealand, and develop the skills required to engage with people and groups to meet their community sport and recreation goals. From there, you鈥檒l have the opportunity to integrate and facilitate the implementation of a wide range of initiatives for community wellbeing. Entry requirements

You must have completed the following: Have聽NCEA Level 2聽or above; or A maximum total of 20 in best 4 Sixth From Certificate subjects;聽or Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 3 or above, where appropriate;聽or A recognised equivalent; and A completed self-declaration of medical condition(s). Specific requirements for the Coaching Pathway : Providing 2 forms of identification, and evidence of any name changes (if any); and Consent to Unitec undertaking a Police Vet check, or a Criminal Record Check (as required)聽and Providing a chronological summary of his/her work history, if any, for the preceding 5 years and the name of any professional organisations and/or licensing authorities and/or registration authorities that the student is a member of or been licensed by and that is relevant to the proposed placement (if required); and Providing the names of 2 referees who may be contacted by Unitec or your placement provider (if required); and Attending a face-to-face interview (if required) for the purposes of a risk assessment carried out in accordance with section 32 of the Act and the underlying regulations.
