Demonstrate your operational proficiency and meet Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements with an official Operational Competency Assessment (OCA).
The OCA is a flight and systems assessment required for pilots operating under a Part 102 Unmanned Aircraft Operator Certificate (UAOC). It validates a pilot鈥檚 ability to safely plan, manage, and execute complex UAV missions in compliance with New Zealand鈥檚 aviation regulations.
Delivered by NZ Drones Academy, a CAA-approved Part 141 Training Organisation (TR103670NZ), the OCA is conducted by qualified examiners experienced in real-world operations across security, inspection, and agricultural missions.
What You鈥檒l Be Assessed On:
Flight competency under the Part 102 framework
Pre-flight risk and site assessment
Airspace and weather interpretation (METARs/NOTAMs)
Emergency procedures and communication
Documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements
On successful completion, you鈥檒l receive a CAA-recognised Operational Competency Certificate, valid for 12 months, demonstrating readiness to operate under a Part 102 UAOC.
Entry requirements
Applicants must hold a CAA Part 101 Pilot Certificate and have completed pre-flight training with a recognised instructor or organisation.
Candidates should have access to an operational drone system and demonstrate understanding of New Zealand鈥檚 Civil Aviation Rules (Parts 101 & 102).
Minimum age 16 years.
